A new China Portfolio for Prisma

In March this year a strong Prisma delegation together with the managing director of European Benchmarking Foundation, Peter Dane, will visit China on a fact finding mission to explore industry and R&D collaboration possibilities in water related technologies as well as life sciences. All this will be supported by the Dutch embassy in Beijing, Counsellor for science and technology, Taake Manning and the Dutch Consulate in Guangzhou, officer for science and technology, Jingmin Kan.

High on the Agenda of the mission will be drinking water and waste water treatment; in China there is great interest in benchmarking as a basis for improvement and innovation. Given the present focus [and need] within China on water and related technologies several utilities and water authorities/associations will be visited like in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Guangdong and Beijing.
Focus in the discussions will be on collaboration through setting up a new China Hub in water benchmarking wherein major Chinese water authorities may participate in the future.

By 2020 Shenzhen International Bio Bay wants to be both the number one global biotech innovation centre and the world’s leading biotech cluster. In this high ambition, the national gene Bank of China, the China joint biotech institute for advanced study, three national R&D centres, three biotech colleges and ten high level hospitals, all of them will find an excellent host and breeding ground in Shenzhen. Expected turnover will be of a similar order of magnitude:  90 billion RMB.

To IBB Shenzhen, their international strategic location and scientific attractiveness is a major opportunity for realizing its ambition to become the world’s leading Biotech cluster. Important however is not only this location of IBB Shenzhen or the creation of multiple taxes -and other incentives; first of all a strong Bio Bay image should be built in the life sciences business and –research community to attract highly qualified researchers and their companies.

To facilitate this process, Prisma&Associates made an offer to contribute in:
 - Informing potential interested stakeholders from science and industry (Netherlands and EU);
 - Organising matchmaking events and roadshows to inform and attract companies and researchers;
 - Contacts with investors, tax lawyers and finance engineering specialists to facilitate decision making;
 - Assisting in lobbying at the level of the Dutch and EU governments.

Overall goal in the mission is to find opportunities and to create cooperation in the field of R&D and high-tech development from which both the Netherlands and China can benefit.
